Mercedes Integrates Touchscreen Technology Into Armrests

One of the cool features of German car maker Mercedes-Benz’s 2015 S65 AMG model is an arm rest with a touchpad where drivers can swipe, gesture, write, and zoom just like a tablet or smartphone.

The touchpad, measuring 2.6 by 1.8 inches, links to a large heads-up display that shows relevant information such as speed limits, navigation info, vehicle speed, and more. The touchscreen allows the user to scroll and zoom with the two-finger pinch. Users can also write down words and numbers or quick addresses for navigation purposes.

The touchscreen also supports haptic technology so users will be able to feel that soft buzz or vibration on the screen. This lets the driver type or use the touchpad without getting distracted from the road.

Of course, the touchpad isn’t the only cool feature of the S65. The new car model has a v12 engine that produces 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, a new AMG Speedshift Plus 7G TRONIC transmission, the magic body control suspension system that all the standard S-class models have, among others.

The S65 will make its debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show and at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new model  will launch to market starting March 2014.
